How nutrition bars fit into my workout routine
I’ve been an avid bike rider for well over a decade, and before nutrition bars, I thought I was getting a complete workout. A friend of mine who is a little bit more hardcore than me introduced protein bars to me a few years ago and they completely changed the way I approach personal fitness.
My normal biking route is about 10 miles long. In the past, I would finish working for the day, grab my bike and head out. I would always take a bottle of water with me, and sometimes I’d remember to grab a piece of fruit. Now, I have a systematic plan that I stick to no matter how long I’m riding or how fast.
My preparation begins before my workout. I sit behind a desk all day long, so I make sure that I stretch out. I grab a nutrition bar and enjoy it as I stretch. I drink a full glass of water and head out with my bike. Once I’m on the street, I give my bike a once-over. I don’t have an expensive bike and I ride it pretty hard, so I always take time to do an inspection. You want to check the tires, the brakes and the light, if you have one. Also, never ride without a helmet. In my city, it is the law but even if it wasn’t, I would never head out without it.
As I ride, I primarily stick to biking trails although there are times when you are forced to ride in the road. Don’t ever ride on the sidewalk. Not only is this unsafe, it is most likely illegal. When I get to the halfway point of my ride, usually five miles in, I stop and rest. In the past, I would normally have just drank water here or maybe I would enjoy a banana, but now, I take this time to have another nutrition bar. I will gauge how hungry I am at that point and if I am, I’ll have a banana and more water. Once I’ve rested, it is back on the bike to head home. The final stage of my ride is uphill and I always try to push myself as hard as I can up this hill. The feeling of euphoria is fantastic and I always feel completely spent by the time I walk through my front door.
Not only do I notice better definition in my legs thanks to the Nutrition bars , I feel like I recover more quickly and I’m even more anxious to head back out on the trails the next day. There is nothing better than riding after a long day behind a desk and I couldn’t imagine doing it without the help of nutrition bars.
I’ve even begun integrating protein bars into my weight training workouts and I’m noticing the same kind of results. I’ve thanked my friend a million times over for introducing me to these workout aides. It’s my turn to buy her a box of her favorites.
